Safe Haven

Safe Haven By: Nicholas Sparks

Although I now know Safe Haven is not qualified as Young Adult Literature, I extremely enjoyed reading this novel.  It has to be my favorite book I've read thus far in my life.  I do not regret reading it even though it does not qualify because I enjoyed it so much.  I found myself reading every morning when I woke up and every night before I feel asleep, which is very rare for me.  If anything, this story made me into a more avid reader.

I feel like many readers could relate to Katie's, the protagonist, story.  It illustrates to young adult readers that no woman, or man, should be assaulted in a relationship, and that if you do find yourself in a similar situation that it is possible to get away.  Although, the way Katie went about getting away was not idea,l and the situation was severe, it shows that she did get away.

Furthermore, Katie and Alex's love story drew me in.  I felt so engaged in their romance and I wanted them to become a family.  It might just be that I am a sucker for love stories, but their love seemed so real and that they were truly happy together.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this story.  I would recommend it to any young reader who enjoys realistic love stories with a glimpse of action and suspense.

Wonder

Wonder
By: R.J. Palacio

I've never really been a reader.  To be honest, I can not remember the last time I read a book prior to this class.  But with the story Wonder, I couldn't bring myself to put the book down.  I really enjoyed reading Wonder.  I feel like it really relates to society today and how students treat each other and bully other classmates.  I think this is a book that all middle school students should read.  Maybe after reading Auggie's story students will realize that it's not what matters on the outside.  It's what is on the inside that matters.
